Many families face daily challenges—some obvious, others not. Whether it’s coping with a new baby, dealing with financial pressure, or simply feeling isolated, support is available—and it doesn’t need to come with a crisis attached.
South Lanarkshire’s Family Support Hubs are local teams of social workers and support staff offering help to families at any stage—from before a child is born right through to age 18. Their aim is to support families early, before problems escalate, and to keep families together wherever possible.
What the Hubs Actually Do
The support is flexible and responsive. It might be one-to-one help for a parent dealing with anxiety, group support for mums or dads, or simply someone to talk to. The service fits around each family’s needs—not the other way round.
What’s offered includes:
- Support during and after pregnancy
- Family Group Decision Making
- Peer support and parenting groups
- Therapeutic support for emotional wellbeing
- Outdoor activities and community events
- Help with housing, benefits, education, and more
You don’t need to be in crisis, and you don’t need a formal referral. Families can just pick up the phone or drop into a hub and ask for help—confidential, non-judgemental, and rooted in the community.
Who Can Access Support
Any family with children (up to age 18) or expecting a child can ask for help. You can contact your local hub directly, or professionals such as teachers, health visitors or GPs can also refer on your behalf using a simple Request for Assistance form.
