THE COMMUNITY TIMES

In May, my 16-year-old nephew, Kayden, was murdered. He was full of life, cheeky, loving, and so full of potential. Losing him shattered everything. But I couldn’t let it stop there. I didn’t have to step into this — I wanted to, because it’s personal, and because I believe it matters. I didn’t want the pain to just sit and grow. I wanted to turn it into something that could mean something. Something that could help someone. Something that could honour him.

That’s why I chose to be part of this — to speak up, raise awareness, and do my part to stop another family from going through what mine has. I’m using what I have — my voice, my creativity, my love for my community — to help make noise where there’s been silence. Too many people don’t see the reality of youth violence until it’s right in front of them. Through media, through messages, through real stories, we can make them see it — and feel it — before it’s too late.

This is for Kayden. This is for every young person still here, still fighting, still dreaming of a future. I believe we all deserve to feel safe, to feel valued, and to be heard. If even one post, one video, or one campaign can shift someone’s thinking, save a life, or support someone who’s hurting — then it’s worth it. Every single time.

Thank you to everyone who’s shown up, supported, shared, or simply cared. It means more than you know. I do this for Kayden — and I’ll keep doing it, for him, and for all the young lives that still have so much left to live for.

KJ – Chief Executive & Chairman spoke of the appointment “I couldn’t be prouder to welcome Kasey into our leadership team as Director of Communications & Media Relations. She will be instrumental in our community work and our campaign to End Knife Crime & Support The Youth

Kasey’s courage, compassion, and commitment to turning grief into action is nothing short of inspiring. Her voice is powerful — not just because of what she’s been through, but because of how she’s chosen to channel it. She honours Kayden’s memory not only through words, but through meaningful, tireless action that is and will make a difference.

Her personal story reminds us why the End Knife Crime & Support The Youth campaign matters. Why we are passionate. Why we speak out. And why we will never stop fighting for safer communities and a better future for our young people.

Kasey, thank you for standing with us. We are stronger with you on board”
